Torque IT serves the community

Torque IT believes in giving back to the community, building a community that is computer literate, giving the underprivileged youth of South Africa a fighting chance to enter the work place. As part of giving back to disadvantaged communities, Torque IT sponsored the winner of EMS Safe Community Award. The winner Besafe Centre Orange Farm was awarded with IT end user training (Microsoft 2007 End User training) for the value of R50 000, 00. The centre is made up of about 25 volunteers that teach safety education, what to do in an emergency, the dangers of fire, and dangers of electricity and road safety rules.

Over a period of 4 month learners made substantial progress from having no computer skills to being able to familiarise themselves with the basics of operating a computer, like switching it on, logging in, passwords & usernames as well as the basic understanding of IT jargons.

With every application they were introduced to, they improved and soon showed remarkable proficiency with programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. The highlight of training for learners of the Besafe Centre Orange Farm was Microsoft Outlook 2007. Learners were caught up in the excitement of sending and receiving emails. Sello Mofokeng a trainer at Torque It says , “being from a historically disadvantaged background myself, it was a privilege to work with EMS volunteers but most importantly to impart the knowledge to the less privileged through education. On the 19th of July2008 Torque IT held an Award Ceremony where these learners received their certificates.

For Torque IT, the commitment continues for the next 2 years, whereby Torque IT will continue to sponsor the EMS Safe Community Awards and will absorb beneficiaries into IT Learnerships where possible.
